Is it time for a new duo to take over the ‘Weekend Update’ desk on Saturday Night Live?
Bowen Yang, a current cast member, along with Matt Rogers, his co-host on the Las Culturistas podcast, have expressed interest in succeeding Michael Che and Colin Jost as the news anchors on the popular segment when the show kicks off its 51st season on October 4.
During an episode of Hot Ones Versus, Rogers asked Yang amidst much laughter, “Both of us tried out for SNL, but only you got on. If you had the chance, which current cast member would you replace with me?”

Yang humorously replied while sidestepping a spicy wing challenge, “If I could swap out any current member… I’d say let’s move Che and Colin out so we can tackle ‘Update’ together.”
“I totally agree. I think we’d bring a fresh, new perspective to ‘Update’. Watch out Colin, watch out Che, you’re on notice,” Rogers chimed in.

Che and Jost have been at the helm of ‘Weekend Update’ since the 40th season in 2014, following in the footsteps of Seth Meyers and Cecily Strong. As of the close of Season 50 in May, there have been no announcements regarding cast changes.
Yang, who became part of the SNL writing team in Season 44 and appeared onscreen from the following season, has been hosting Las Culturistas with Rogers since 2016. The duo is set to premiere the first televised version of their pop culture podcast’s Culture Awards on Bravo, airing Tuesday, August 5 at 9pm ET, with availability on Peacock the following day.
