As April unfolds, the Duffer Brothers conclude their ten-year partnership with Netflix and transition to Paramount under a new four-year exclusive contract covering movies, TV, and streaming content. Paramount swiftly showcased the Stranger Things creators in a lavish mini-film that both celebrated the studio’s cinematic heritage and looked toward its future.
This high-profile promo was directed by Jon M. Chu of Wicked fame and voiced by Tom Cruise. It premiered at the beginning of Paramount’s CinemaCon event in Las Vegas and was later featured at the company’s upfront presentation in Los Angeles on the same day. The video included appearances by the Duffers and other notable figures who have signed overall or first-look deals with Paramount’s new leadership in the past eight months. This group includes James Mangold, Issa Rae, Dan Trachtenberg, and Will Smith, as well as actors like Timothée Chalamet, Mark Wahlberg, Chris Pratt, Marlon Wayans, John Krasinski, Teyana Taylor, and Johnny Knoxville, some of whom interacted with iconic scenes from Paramount’s film archives.
In a particularly memorable scene, the Duffer Brothers are depicted sitting in a dimly lit movie theater munching on popcorn, while renowned producer Jerry Bruckheimer leans over and whispers, “This is my favorite part.”

The inclusion of the Duffers in this scene subtly underlines the importance of the cinematic experience—an element reportedly crucial in their decision to choose Paramount over continuing with Netflix. They shared their enthusiasm about working on theatrical releases and Paramount’s illustrious history in their announcement of the deal last August.
“To collaborate with David [Ellison], Josh [Goldstine], and Dana [Goldberg]—all of whom are committed to creating bold, original movies for the big screen—is not just thrilling, it’s a realization of a lifelong dream,” the Duffer Brothers stated. “And to do this at a studio with such a significant Hollywood legacy is an honor we deeply value.”
The energetic montage concludes with Tom Cruise, star of Mission Impossible and Top Gun, perched atop the Paramount Studios’ water tower overlooking Los Angeles. His voiceover confidently declares, “The future is paramount and the future looks pretty great from here.”
True to his daredevil reputation, Cruise reportedly performed the stunt himself, without the aid of CGI effects.
