New Workplace Comedy Set in a U.S. Embassy in the Works at NBC
EXCLUSIVE: NBC is currently developing a new workplace comedy series that takes place within a U.S. Embassy overseas. The series, named Foreign Service, is being created by the talented duo Aaron Brownstein and Simon Ganz, known for their work on Santa Clarita Diet. The project is also backed by Aaron Kaplan’s production company, Kapital Entertainment.
The script for Foreign Service is penned by Brownstein and Ganz. It portrays the lives of both American and local employees at a diminutive U.S. Embassy as they deal with both everyday workplace dynamics and larger international challenges.
The trio of Brownstein, Ganz, and Kaplan are set to executive produce the series. The production will be handled by Universal Television, which is part of the Universal Studio Group. Dylan Hammalian serves as the creative executive on behalf of Kapital.
The creators, Brownstein and Ganz, began their journey in the television industry as assistants on notable NBC and Universal TV productions such as Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. They later secured their initial staff writing roles on another NBC/Universal TV collaboration, About a Boy, with all three shows under the leadership of Jason Katims. They gained further recognition as creators, executive producers, and showrunners of the comedy series Gumshoe, which was picked up for a pilot by HBO Max and directed by Randall Einhorn. Their repertoire also includes involvement in Kapital’s Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet and the Paramount+ series Beavis and Butt-Head.
