The $2.99 Limited-Edition Trader Joe's Find I'm Buying All Summer Long

Every visit to Trader Joe’s inevitably leads me straight to the “What’s New” section to check out the latest seasonal offerings. Despite my best intentions to just pick up a single item, I invariably leave with a cart filled with 10 to 12 products.

For instance, consider the newly introduced limited-edition Pretzel Buns. As someone who can’t resist Trader Joe’s limited edition items, I found myself grabbing these buns on a recent trip meant for stocking up on burger essentials. They are available till the end of August, perfectly timed for the height of burger season.

Why I Adore Trader Joe’s Pretzel Buns

Although they look similar to other pretzel buns I’ve tried, these were lacking a crucial feature: salt! Initially, this was disappointing — after all, what’s a pretzel bun without some salt on top?

However, this turned out to be surprisingly clever. Paired with a well-seasoned burger, I didn’t find myself missing the salty crunch.

The buns themselves are incredibly soft with that characteristic pretzel chew. They toast up nicely on the grill, maintaining an ideal balance of bun to burger. They aren’t overly bready, nor are they too thin.

They possess a delightful malty taste that complements a juicy beef burger and tangy Dijon mustard beautifully.

I’m excited to use these buns throughout the summer. Their texture and heft make them perfect for hefty pulled pork sandwiches, and I’m eager to try them with grilled salmon sandwiches too. The combination of toasted pretzel with rich salmon and a sharp mustard slaw promises to be delightful.

My only gripe? They’re so popular at home that my kids have been asking for them in their school lunches, meaning I need to stockpile them! Hopefully, their availability extends beyond summer. The end of summer is tough enough without saying goodbye to these buns!
