‘The Agency’ Renewed For Season 2 At Showtime After Record Debut Weekend

The Agency has quickly secured a second season on Showtime following an impressive opening weekend.

Since its launch on November 29, the first two episodes of the spy thriller have garnered over 5.1 million views worldwide across streaming platforms and traditional broadcasts. According to Paramount Global, this makes it the most-streamed debut series on Showtime to date, although specific streaming data was not disclosed.

(It’s worth noting that Paramount promotes these viewer figures but can’t specify the exact number of people watching a single stream on Paramount+. Instead, the company likely uses the metric of “active subscriber households” to estimate the number of viewers streaming the content.)

“The success of The Agency is a clear indicator that our new Showtime lineup is set to drive significant growth for Paramount+,” stated Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios.

The Agency is based on the French series Le Bureau des Legendes and stars Michael Fassbender as Martian, a deep-cover CIA operative who is pulled from the field to return to London Station. His life becomes complicated when a past romantic interest reenters his life, reigniting old flames. Now, Martian must navigate a treacherous path that pits his professional duties and secret identity against his personal desires, thrusting both into a perilous world of global espionage and danger.

The cast includes Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Reza Brojerdi, and Richard Gere, with guest stars Dominic West and Hugh Bonneville. The recurring cast features Adam Nagaitis, Ambreen Razia, Bilal Hasna, David Harewood, Kurt Egyiawan, Ray BLK, Sabrina Wu, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
