Netflix & Left Bank Launch ‘Dept. Q’ Training Programme

Netflix, in collaboration with Left Bank, is launching a training initiative aimed at nurturing Scottish talent through the popular series Dept. Q.

The series, produced in Scotland and a major success on the streaming platform, will offer 20 paid traineeships to local emerging talents during its upcoming filming season later this year.

The training program, supported by Left Bank’s parent company Sony Pictures and Screen Scotland, is crafted to provide valuable, paid, entry-level positions that span a variety of on-set and production roles. Participants in the program will gain experience in multiple departments involved in the production of the show.

Dept. Q has recently become one of Netflix’s standout UK productions. The show stars Matthew Goode and Chloe Pirrie and features a leading detective, who, after suffering an injury, works on solving unresolved cold cases.

Anne Mensah, the head of Netflix UK content, commented on the initiative, “Dept. Q has consistently highlighted the rich pool of talent in Scotland, both in front of and behind the camera. This new training initiative allows us to further this by partnering with Left Bank Pictures, Sony Pictures Television, and Screen Scotland to open doors for the upcoming Scottish talent, enabling them to accumulate practical experience on a significant production and to kickstart sustainable careers in this industry.”

Last year, Scottish professionals were the center of attention due to debates concerning the employment of local crew on The Traitors, a show filmed in a Scottish castle but produced by a company based in London and commissioned from London.
