Lauren Graham Notes She Gets “No Residuals” From ‘Gilmore Girls’ On Netflix: “Paid In Love”

Lauren Graham has recently discussed the dynamics of streaming services like Netflix hosting classic television series such as Gilmore Girls.

Even though the original series has been streaming on Netflix for over a decade, followed by a revival miniseries in 2016, Graham revealed she does not receive “any residuals” from the show’s availability on the platform.

“The show has definitely found a new audience with Netflix,” she mentioned during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “It’s not just the original viewers on The WB, but now younger audiences, older audiences, and even men who might have been introduced to it by family members. It’s always a surprise when someone recognizes me for it. I’m not sure why it still surprises me.”

When questioned about her earnings from the series, which originally aired from 2000 to 2007, Graham humorously noted, “There are actually no residuals from Netflix. However, the love and support from fans have been a real payment.”

The reunion for the Netflix miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016 brought the cast back together, but it also sparked a lawsuit from producer Gavin Polone against Warner Bros. Polone claimed he hadn’t received a proper share of the profits from both the original series and the revival.

Polone accused the studio and its various divisions of “engaging in deceptive accounting practices and misinterpreting contractual agreements.”

Following its resurgence on the Nielsen Streaming Chart in October, reaching no. 8, Gilmore Girls also became available on Hulu in December.
