Sydney Sweeney Says ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Is More “Unhinged” & Promises A “Crazier” Cassie

In the second season of Euphoria, Cassie was on cloud nine, and Sydney Sweeney, who portrays her, suggests that in the upcoming season three, Cassie will be wildly out of control.

In a discussion with Empire magazine while promoting her new Apple TV+ movie with Julianne Moore, Echo Valley, Sweeney gave some insights into what viewers should brace for in the much-awaited new season.

“Cassie holds a special place in my heart, and I feel very close to her,” the founder of Fifty Fifty Films shared. “She’s a whirlwind of emotions. She constantly errs and is flawed in countless ways, yet all her actions stem from love, albeit sometimes a tragic kind of love. Playing someone as unpredictable as she is turns out to be exhilarating. Working with Sam [Levinson] is fantastic because I can read the script, call him up, and say, ‘Let’s make this even wilder.’ He’s always ready to push the boundaries. This season is totally off the rails.”

When questioned whether the HBO dramedy has escalated in intensity compared to its previous seasons, Sweeney responded with a chuckle, “Absolutely.”

Produced by A24 and conceived by Levinson, the series took a darker, more intense turn in its second season, climaxing in a theatrical piece that exposed the top scandals at East Highland High, including Cassie’s covert affair with Nate (Jacob Elordi), the abusive ex of her friend Maddie (Alexa Demie).

Currently under production in Los Angeles, the series will explore life beyond high school for the first time, incorporating a five-year leap forward and slated to premiere next year, four years following the end of Season 2. This delay is due to a combination of strikes and creative decisions. New cast members such as Sharon Stone, Asante Blackk, and Lucy Punch, along with Rosalía, Marshawn Lynch, and Kadeem Hardison, will join returning mainstays Zendaya, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Hunter Schafer, Demie, Elordi, and Sweeney. Colman Domingo is set to make a guest appearance.

Beyond Euphoria, Sweeney has recently completed shooting a yet-to-be-named biopic about boxer Christy Martin and wrapped up production on The Housemaid, a project directed by Paul Feig which she also co-produced. She is currently both producing and starring in Scandalous!, directed by Domingo, which explores the relationship between Sammy Davis Jr. and Kim Novak, played by Sweeney. Her earlier announced remake of Barbarella is also underway. Additionally, she will appear in Americana, set for release on August 22, 2025.
