Tragic Loss of Renowned Actor Patrick Muldoon

The entertainment world mourns the sudden death of accomplished actor and producer Patrick Muldoon, who passed away this morning, April 19, due to a heart attack at the age of 57. Muldoon was celebrated for his significant roles on the television shows Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, as well as his performance in the film Starship Troopers.

Muldoon was born in San Pedro, California, and was an alumnus of the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a member of the Trojans football team.

While still a student at USC, Muldoon began his acting career with a brief appearance on the sitcom Who’s the Boss?. After graduating in 1991, he quickly secured a recurring role on the popular TV series Saved By the Bell.

He first gained major attention for his portrayal of Austin Reed on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, a role he held from 1992 to 1995 and reprised from 2011 to 2012. Additionally, he was known for his role as the sinister Richard Hart on Melrose Place, appearing in seasons three through five, and starred in various TV movies throughout the late 1990s and 2000s.

Notable Screen Appearances

In cinema, Muldoon is perhaps best known for his role as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 movie Starship Troopers, directed by Paul Verhoeven. His most recent project, the crime thriller Dirty Hands, is expected to release later this year.

Besides acting, Muldoon also had a hand in producing several films, including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, The Card Counter, The Dreadful, Riff Raff, and the upcoming Kockroach, which features stars like Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz and is currently in production.

Outside of his film and television career, Muldoon was passionate about music. He was the lead vocalist for the band The Sleeping Masses and was often seen playing his guitar at gatherings, bringing life to the party.

Friends remember him as a man of deep generosity, sharing his talents in poetry and humor freely. Known for his stylish and charismatic nature, Muldoon had a knack for making those around him feel recognized and secure. His energetic, rock ’n’ roll spirit infused his every action.

Muldoon, affectionately nicknamed “Bobo” by those close to him, is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa; and his beloved niece Halo and nephew Arrow Zappa.
