‘Amandaland’ Writer Reveals Dream Guest Star After Winning BAFTA: “She’s America’s Amanda”

Amandaland creator Holly Walsh has her eyes on an unexpected celebrity appearance.

At the recent BAFTA Television Awards where her show won Best Scripted Comedy, Walsh expressed her desire at the winners’ press conference to feature former First Lady Melania Trump on the show.

Walsh humorously remarked, “She’s essentially America’s Amanda,” referring to her as “Melania Narnia.”

Following her unexpected remarks at a press conference about Jeffrey Epstein, Melania Trump has become a favorite target for British comedians. She was humorously imitated in an SNL UK sketch by Emma Sidi, where she assured Londoners she had no connections with the infamous criminal.

Despite the show’s success, Lucy Punch, who stars as Britain’s Amanda, did not secure the Actress in a Comedy award at the BAFTAs, nor did her co-stars Jennifer Saunders or Philippa Dunne. The award went to Katherine Parkinson for her role in Here We Go.

Nevertheless, Walsh remained upbeat and hinted at the possibility of a third season for what has been one of the BBC’s most successful comedies this decade.

“We are thrilled,” she stated. “It’s all about middle-aged women being ridiculous, and who wouldn’t enjoy that?”

On the red carpet, Punch shared her excitement about her nomination and discussed her upcoming role in the promising new series The Audacity, alongside Billy Magnussen and Sarah Goldberg. In other comedy categories, Steve Coogan clinched the Best Actor in a Comedy for How Are You? It’s Alan (Partridge), and Seth Rogen’s The Studio won the prestigious Best International award.
