Eric Dane Emotionally Unpacks ALS Diagnosis: “It’s Not A Dream”

Eric Dane recently shared his ALS diagnosis and is now speaking publicly about his condition for the first time.

The actor from Euphoria showed visible emotion in a teaser for an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer set to air on Monday’s Good Morning America. In it, he discusses his life after being diagnosed with ALS.

“Every morning, I wake up to the harsh reality that this is really happening. It’s not just a bad dream,” Dane mentioned in a preview of the interview.

Having recently resumed his role on Euphoria, Dane is maintaining a hopeful outlook. “I don’t believe this is where my story ends. I don’t feel like my journey is over,” he expressed.

The former Grey’s Anatomy star initially disclosed his health condition to People magazine in April, stating, “I have been diagnosed with ALS.”

“I’m grateful that I can continue to work, and I’m excited to return to the set of Euphoria next week,” Dane continued. “I would appreciate it if you could respect my family’s and my need for privacy during this time.”

The Mayo Clinic explains ALS as a “disease of the nervous system that impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord,” leading to a “loss of muscle control. The condition progressively worsens.”

The third season of Euphoria commenced production in early February 2025 following significant delays. Dane reprises his role as Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate Jacobs, portrayed by Jacob Elordi.

Joining Dane in the third season are several new faces, including Kadeem Hardison, musician Rosalia, ex-pro football star Marshawn Lynch, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Priscilla Delgado, James Landry Hébert, and Anna Van Patten, all in prominent guest roles.
