‘Swamp People’ Star Junior Edwards Dies

Junior Edwards, a beloved original cast member of the History Channel’s Swamp People, has passed away according to a statement on Facebook by his grandson and fellow cast member, “Little” Willie Edwards.

“Rest easy, pawpaw… I’m sure you’re up there running hoop nets or getting up to some wild adventure beyond those pearly gates… We will miss you tremendously, pawpaw, we love you more than words can express!!! Until we meet again,” Willie expressed, sharing an image of his father, Willie Edwards, and his grandfather aboard a boat.

While the family did not reveal the cause of his death, a previous post this month hinted that the seasoned alligator hunter was struggling with health issues.

On July 6, “Little” Willie Edwards asked for prayers, saying, “Y’all keep him in your thoughts and prayers please… we need a miracle. Get better for us, papa, we love you!!!”

Since its debut on the History Channel in 2010, Swamp People showcased Junior Edwards from Seasons 1 to 6. He left the show in 2015 but made a comeback in Season 12, in 2021, marking 100 episodes featuring him. The show’s Season 16 finale aired in April of this year, with plans for a return in 2026.

His passing has elicited heartfelt tributes from his co-stars, including Ronnie Adams and his hunting partner and popular cast member Ashley “Deadeye” Jones.

“Praying for the Edwards family in this difficult time!!! Rest in peace, Junior!!!” Adams shared in an Instagram post.

Jones also shared her sentiments, posting a photo with Junior Edwards: “The world lost a legend! Mr. Junior Edwards passed away! Please keep the family in your prayers! He was one of the greatest alligator hunters ever, a true outdoorsman through and through! I’ll always remember watching him haul in giant gators at Duffy’s Gas Station in Pierre Part, LA. It was the end of a long day for us both, but I’m glad we took a moment for a photo!”
