Following his Emmy-nominated cameo in the pilot episode of The Studio, Martin Scorsese has made the Apple TV+ series a must-see destination for top-tier directors.
Seth Rogen, who both co-created and stars in the show, shared how surreal it feels to decline participation requests from some of his admired directors, especially after the show’s first season won four Emmys.
“It’s like I’m managing a fictional movie studio,” he explained to GQ. “I get calls from agents who pitch their clients to direct nonexistent movies on our series, which is both bizarre and very meta. I find myself saying no to directors I respect because the fictional movie doesn’t suit our envisioned project. It’s definitely gotten a bit weird.”

After Scorsese’s memorable self-portrayal, directors like Ron Howard, Sarah Polley, Olivia Wilde, Zack Snyder, Aaron Sorkin, and Parker Finn have also made appearances in The Studio.
The show’s critical success, which Rogen created with Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez, has left many in the industry regretting their initial rejections of Rogen.
“At the Emmys, several people approached me to express their regrets about passing up the opportunity, which really meant a lot to me,” Rogen said, chuckling. “All I ever wanted was for people to regret not collaborating with me.”
In September, Rogen celebrated winning his first four Emmy Awards for the series, claiming titles for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
