Even though Law & Order: Organized Crime has concluded, Stabler and Benson’s partnership endures off-screen.
After the show’s five-season run, Christopher Meloni, who portrays Detective Elliot Stabler, caught up with Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Hargitay has portrayed Olivia Benson throughout the series’ 27 seasons.
“Spending a random Thursday in LA as a newly jobless man. Had a dinner with my buddy @therealmariskahargaitay,” Meloni shared alongside photos of the meet-up.
Last week, it was exclusively reported by Deadline that Law & Order: Organized Crime would not return after its five-season stint on Peacock and NBC, following earlier attempts this year to find a new showrunner.

On Instagram, Meloni expressed gratitude to the fans for their support during the show’s journey, which began in 2021 after his 12 seasons on SVU from 1999 to 2011. “P4L [partners for life],” Hargitay commented.
When asked about the possibility of Stabler returning to Law & Order: SVU, Hargitay told Deadline, “I certainly hope so. It’s very comforting for both of us that our characters’ bond was so culturally iconic. The fact that Benson and Stabler still resonate with fans is deeply meaningful to me, and as you may know, Chris and I are incredibly close. He’s very sought after as an actor, so we’ll see if we can align our schedules.”
In the meantime, SVU continues to make history as the longest-running primetime live-action series on TV, having been renewed for its 28th season this month.
Meloni’s next role will see him leading Dan Fogelman’s upcoming NFL drama, The Land, on Hulu.
