Over two decades since her last adventure, Sarah Michelle Gellar is gearing up to battle the forces of darkness once more.
Gellar recently shared news about a potential reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer under development at Hulu, a project by 20th Television and Searchlight TV. She expressed the significant pressure to get it right, reflecting on her iconic role in the original series that aired on The WB from 1997 to 2003.
“There’s got to be a better term than overwhelming,” she commented in an interview with People. “It’s incredibly touching and exciting, yet immensely nerve-wracking all at once.”

Despite feeling overwhelmed, Gellar is optimistic about the creative team, which includes notable figures like Chloé Zhao and the Zuckermans (Nora and Lilla Zuckerman), alongside Gail Berman. “I believe people will be truly impressed with what we’re bringing together,” she noted.
Earlier in the month, Deadline disclosed that the reboot is close to receiving a pilot order from Hulu, with Gellar poised to return in the lead role for the pilot directed by Zhao and penned by the Zuckermans.

In addition to Gellar, Zhao, and the Zuckermans, Dolly Parton is also returning as an executive producer for the series, having previously produced the original under her Sandollar production company.
Buffy creator Joss Whedon, who also penned the 1992 movie that inspired the series, is not involved in this new reboot. Whedon has been absent from Hollywood since facing multiple misconduct allegations in 2021.
