Harry Lawtey Opens Up About ‘Industry’ Departure: “I’ve Said Everything I Had to Say”

Harry Lawtey, along with his disheveled fictional persona, Robert Spearing from Industry, both seem to be finding their paths to contentment.

In a recent dialogue with the U.K.’s The Telegraph, Lawtey shared insights on his departure from the gradually popular HBO/BBC series, attributing it to both narrative purposes and conflicting schedules, a detail earlier touched upon by Deadline.

“I believe I’ve expressed all I needed through my character, and both the writers and I are satisfied with how his journey concluded,” he stated.

Although Lawtey hasn’t watched the series himself (“I don’t feel the need, it’s not something I do,” he remarked), he noted, “After my last line in the final scene I shot, the script direction read: ‘On Robert – transformation complete.’ That really resonated with me.”

Lawtey expressed, “Now, I feel unanchored, yet in a positive way. I’m eager for what comes next.”

Created by ex-investment bankers Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, Industry tracks the turbulent lives of young professionals at a high-profile London investment firm. The show’s third season concluded with Lawtey’s character venturing to California. After ending a tumultuous relationship with his ex-lover Yasmin (Marisa Abela), Robert finds new success in the tech-driven venture capitalist environment of Silicon Valley.

As previously disclosed, Lawtey’s exit was partly due to scheduling conflicts, confirmed by Deadline and by Lawtey himself. He is set to star in the Cold War thriller Billion Dollar Spy opposite Russell Crowe, coinciding with the commencement of the next season of the finance drama’s shooting in the U.K. tomorrow.

Since his debut in Industry as a bright yet arrogant finance graduate, Lawtey has navigated his character through the intense pressures at the fictional Pierpoint, grappling with substance abuse and complex romantic entanglements.
