Jacob Tierney Shares ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 Update While Accepting Critics Choice LGBTQ Showrunner Award: “Working Very Hard”

As the accolades continue to pile up for Heated Rivalry following its debut season, Jacob Tierney is deep into the development of its second season.

At the recent 3rd Critics Choice Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television in Los Angeles, Tierney shared updates on the upcoming season of the Crave/HBO Max series while accepting the Showrunner Award through a video call.

“I’m incredibly thankful to the Critics Choice Association for this remarkable and unexpected recognition,” Tierney remarked in his video speech. “I deeply appreciate it, and I regret not being there in person to celebrate with everyone. I’m putting all my efforts into making Season 2 available as quickly as possible. I really wish I could join you. This means a lot to me.”

In his acceptance speech, Tierney also expressed gratitude towards his producer Brendan Brady, the author of the original books Rachel Reid, and both the cast and crew of the show.

Available for Streaming on Deadline

Following the renewal of Heated Rivalry for a second season, Tierney disclosed to Deadline that it will be adapted from The Long Game, the second and only other book in Rachel Reid’s series at the moment. Reid’s upcoming book Unrivaled is set to continue the narrative on Sept. 29.

The Long Game revisits the lives of Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) a decade into their clandestine relationship. Ilya is pushing to go public, whereas Shane wants to maintain their privacy to preserve his professional edge.

Filming for Season 2 is slated to begin in August, after Tierney completes the scriptwriting phase.
