Hannah Einbinder Slams AI Creators As “Losers”: “They’re Not Artists”

As the groundbreaking show Hacks enters its fifth and final season, Hannah Einbinder shares her pointed views on the emerging role of artificial intelligence in the entertainment sector.

The four-time Golden Globe nominee didn’t hold back her disdain for generative AI developers, labeling them as “losers” who are “stealing from true artists.” Einbinder voiced her opinion during a press event for the HBO Max series.

“These creators are not artists, they’re not creative. They’ve always wanted to be seen as special, but they’re not,” she said, as reported by SlashFilm.

Einbinder continued, “They aim to strip real artists of our talents. But you can’t. And even if you try, you’ll never be cool. You guys are disliked. The only reason people tolerate you is for power and influence, not for any moral reasons. You’re a loser, you’ll never be cool, and you were probably the kid with the wheeled backpack in high school. I just want to dunk your head in a toilet and flush it.”

Jen Statsky, a co-creator of the series alongside Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello, concurred that AI technology might simplify the creative process but at the expense of creatives themselves, while only benefiting the executives.

“I would feel better if it were in responsible hands, but that’s not the case,” Statsky remarked. “Until safeguards are established, until there’s a way to ensure that we are protecting both the integrity of art and the livelihood of people, it’s not a good situation.”

Hacks Season 5 launches on April 9 on HBO Max, featuring the return of Einbinder’s character, Ava Daniels, alongside comedy legend Deborah Vance (played by Jean Smart). In this season, Vance is set to perform her first stand-up show at Madison Square Garden after being legally excluded from late-night shows due to contract violations.
