‘Snowfall’ Spinoff Series Starring Gail Bean & Isaiah John Receives Pilot Order From FX

The upcoming spinoff of Snowfall, which we initially reported as being in the early stages of development in 2023, has now been greenlit for a pilot by FX, as confirmed by Deadline. Actors Gail Bean and Isaiah John are set to return, playing Wanda and Leon Simmons respectively.

The spinoff will continue the narrative from the original series, set in the 1990s in Los Angeles during the transition from the crack cocaine boom to the rise of gangster rap, dominated by gang conflicts primarily between the Bloods and Crips. Wanda’s character will bridge the gap between the original series and this new extension, anticipated to introduce additional main characters.

While Wanda and Leon are confirmed for the spinoff, it remains uncertain if other characters from the original series will return. Casting for new roles will start soon, with production of the pilot slated for this summer.

The project is spearheaded by Snowfall‘s own Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson, who will serve as executive producers. They will be joined by writer Malcolm Spellman.

For six seasons, FX’s Snowfall, co-created by the late John Singleton, depicted the devastating impact of an undercover CIA operation that fueled the crack cocaine epidemic in the buzzing community of South Central L.A.
