Trader Joe’s Panzerotti Pizza Bites Review
• Cost: $3.99 per 11.29-ounce package
• What Makes Them Great: These delightful fried bites, packed with tomato sauce and mozzarella, are crafted from pizza dough and only take eight to ten minutes to heat up in either an air fryer or oven. Originating from Southern Italy, they serve as an ideal snack for both children and adults in the late afternoon.
My eldest son is a massive soccer enthusiast. He’s familiar with the names and native countries of nearly every significant player and dons a soccer uniform nearly daily. His passion isn’t confined to just one team; he simply loves the sport itself.
During our evening meals, we engage in flag quizzes, and he impresses me with his extensive geographical knowledge, a subject I’m less familiar with. Although I don’t quite share his soccer craze, we’ve bonded over exploring international cuisines.
Although he was initially hesitant to try new foods, his soccer-driven curiosity about different cultures has broadened his palate, influencing our food shopping choices.
He’s intrigued by international products like Irish cheddar, French butter, and Swiss chocolate. Needless to say, our trips to the local Trader Joe’s have become quite an adventure. It was there we stumbled upon Trader Joe’s Panzerotti Pizza Bites priced at $3.99, which have quickly become his snack of choice.
Our Family’s Affection for Trader Joe’s Panzerotti Pizza Bites
Located in the frozen section, these bites are a breeze to prepare—just 12 minutes in the oven or eight minutes in the air fryer. Not only are they convenient, but they also boast a fantastic flavor. They remind me of the pizza rolls I enjoyed as a kid, but these are far superior.
While I’m no connoisseur of Southern Italian fare, I adore it. Eager to learn about the origin of these snacks, my son and I delved into the history of panzerotti. Originating from Puglia, these treats date back to the 16th century, initially created as a way to repurpose stale bread.
Typically, these savory pastry pockets filled with tomato sauce and mozzarella are fried to achieve a perfect crispiness. The version from Trader Joe’s is pre-fried before freezing, allowing them to crisp up nicely in the air fryer. What I particularly appreciate is that they are made by a local vendor in Southern Italy renowned for this regional specialty, ensuring their authenticity.
We’ve made it a routine to enjoy these right after the kids come back from camp. They’re peckish, but it’s too early for a full dinner. These satisfying pizza snacks perfectly tide them over, and I must admit, I often sneak a bite or two myself.
The dough is pleasingly chewy, akin to a bagel, with a satisfying crunch on the outside. The Italian tomatoes lend the sauce a delightful balance, and the mozzarella is just right. While a trip to Italy isn’t on our agenda this summer, indulging in these gives us a little slice of la dolce vita at home.
