‘The Daily Show’s Desi Lydic On Future Of Late Night & Whether New Paramount Leaders Have Asked For Changes: “We Aren’t Holding Back”

Desi Lydic marked a decade with The Daily Show on Saturday, celebrating the occasion by securing her second Emmy Award. She also shared with journalists that the new executives at Paramount have not imposed any restrictions on the show’s political satire.

“Nothing has been off-limits for us,” Lydic commented after her victory in the Performer in a Short Form Comedy category at the Creative Arts Emmys. “We’re not pulling any punches and we’re not planning to.”

When asked about the future of late-night television, especially in light of The Tonight Show with Stephen Colbert concluding next year, the comedian from The Daily Show expressed optimism.

“I certainly hope so,” she responded concerning the continuity of the late-night genre. “There’s definitely a need for a release and for laughter at this moment. I’m optimistic about our future… These are tough times indeed. I’m just thankful to have been a part of The Daily Show for this long and I really hope it can continue.”

This Emmy is Lydic’s first in the Performer in a Short Form Comedy category. She previously celebrated an Emmy win for Outstanding Talk Series when the show from Comedy Central triumphed in 2024.

In her acceptance speech, Lydic joked about watching “a lot of Fox News” to prepare for Saturday’s win. She humorously thanked the “Deep State” TV Academy.
