‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator Steven Knight Teases More Projects Beyond Film: “It Won’t Be The End”

The adventures of the Shelby family are far from over.

Steven Knight, the mind behind Peaky Blinders, hinted in a discussion with Times Radio from the UK that the universe might expand even after the upcoming movie. In a conversation with journalist Jane Mulkerrins, he mentioned that they had completed shooting for the movie spinoff just before the holiday season, though a specific release date remains unannounced.

“It’s a bit premature for that, but it’s fair to expect it might be around a year,” he commented.

When asked if there were any further developments for Peaky Blinders after the movie, Knight revealed, “You bring up a good point because while the film is set to release, it certainly doesn’t signify the conclusion.”

Watch on Deadline

Knight was secretive about whether the continuation would be in the form of a series or another film, stating, “It definitely won’t be the end, that much I can say. I’m not ruling anything out.”

Despite the conclusion of the BBC’s highly acclaimed six-season series in April 2022, the narrative of Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) is not finished. Production photos started appearing online after principal photography kicked off in late September in the UK. Murphy, who won an Oscar, resumes his role as the head of the Birmingham criminal family. Joining him are stars Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible, Dune), Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin, Saltburn), and Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs). Stephen Graham, who portrayed Hayden Stagg in the show’s final season, will also appear in the movie.

Following the series finale, Knight hinted to Deadline that the film would delve into England during World War II. The original Peaky series followed the criminal family through the 1920s, named after their practice of stitching razor blades into the peaks of their caps. However, specific plot details for the Netflix movie, produced in collaboration with the BBC, are still under wraps.
