Kat Dennings Fondly Remembers ‘Raising Dad’ Co-Star Bob Saget: “Very Protective Of Me”

Kat Dennings recently shared her memories of Bob Saget, her on-screen father in the short-lived WB sitcom Raising Dad.

Speaking with People magazine, the star of Shifting Gears reminisced about the one-season show that aired from 2001 to 2002. The series depicted the life of a widowed father juggling his personal and professional responsibilities while raising his two daughters, portrayed by Dennings and Brie Larson.

“It’s heartbreaking that he’s no longer with us,” Dennings expressed, praising the Full House veteran as a wonderful person to work alongside.

Dennings continued, “He always looked out for me on set. As a young actress, I felt his protective nature especially because he had daughters of his own. He was incredibly kind and caring. I only have fond, positive memories of him.”

Bob Saget passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2022, found unresponsive in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, according to local authorities. He had performed at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall in Palm Valley, Florida, the previous night. A state medical examiner determined that his death was an accident caused by blunt head trauma, likely from an unobserved fall. The toxicology report showed no presence of drugs or other toxins.

Kelly Rizzo, Saget’s widow, honored the anniversary of his passing earlier this month with a touching video montage on Instagram. Her caption read, “3 YEARS. Still so surreal. January 9th 2022 was undoubtedly the hardest day I’ve faced. January 9th 2025 has brought me reflection, cherished memories, and deep gratitude. Every day, I’m thankful for the moments we shared and the laughter, love, and solace Bob brought into my life. It’s amazing how the love for Bob hasn’t faded. He continues to occupy a big place in many hearts. His legacy endures strongly, and I often find myself sharing memories of Bob, which not only brings me joy but also, I believe, makes him feel cherished and remembered from above.”
