Jon Stewart Rings The Alarm Amid Trump Saying He’d “Love To” Run For Third Term: “He Already Has The Merch”

Jon Stewart delivers a biting critique of political figures on The Daily Show, and in tonight’s episode, he sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s hints at seeking a third term, which would challenge the principles of the constitution.

With a tone dripping with feigned sentiment, the comedian spent most of his opening segment throwing barbed jokes about the lack of gratitude Americans show towards the Republican leader.

“All he wants is to rescue his nation, and all he demands in return is a bit of absolute, undivided loyalty, a couple of billion dollars in lobbying money, and some new monetary forms. The poor guy,” he joked.

Stewart commented on Trump’s fondness for grandeur during his international trips, saying, “But what happens when he returns? ‘Meat is too costly! My medical bills have ruined me! Where’s my grandmother?’ Poor little billionaire president.”

“He does so much for us, yet we find fault in everything. What have we always wanted? A massive ballroom,” Stewart continued.

“We’re sucking the joy out of it,” he noted. “And then, when he attempts to relax by destroying some ships, it’s complain, complain, complain. ‘Who killed those people without a trial? Oh, was it you? You’re in trouble now.’”

While showing a clip of Trump’s harsh treatment of reporters who dare to ask challenging questions, Stewart added, “Our incessant grievances only bring out his worst. He doesn’t want to be this person. Everyone knows that a healthy relationship is one where one person does whatever they want, legal or not, and the other just has to deal with it.”

Stewart then shifted to Trump’s musings about a third term — something he admitted he’d “love to do.” Former Trump advisor, Steve Bannon, has even suggested publicly that there’s a “plan” to bypass the 22nd Amendment to enable this.

“He’s going for it! ‘I haven’t thought about it.’ That’s his giveaway whenever he’s planning something legally, ethically, or morally questionable,” Stewart expressed. “He claims he hasn’t considered it, but obviously, he has because the merchandise is already available.”

Stewart also discussed Trump’s claims that he wouldn’t manipulate the amendment by using the Vice President as a loophole.

“He’s the type of person who says, ‘I have too much respect for Americans to play games. If I run again, I’m going to openly defy the Constitution.’ And frankly, it seems very likely he will because you don’t renovate a home, tear down a section, and add a 90,000 square foot ballroom for someone else,” Stewart concluded. “He’s in this for the long run.”

However, the comedian also offered a solution, suggesting Trump could become the “overseas president in 2028,” effectively serving as “America’s ambassador, showing off our great country everywhere but here.”
