SNL's Weekend Update Hits Cornell Controversy & 'Glee' Comeback!

During a segment of Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update, Michael Che brought up several topics including cracks about Pete Hegseth, Kristi Noem, and Donald Trump’s ongoing feud with CNN. He also delved into the recent issues at Cornell University and Ryan Murphy’s announcement regarding the revival of Glee.

Che started with a grave reference to the sexual assault allegations at Cornell University, emphasizing, “Clearly, it’s not a subject for jokes, but it does present a crucial moment for men to hold each other accountable.”

As the focus shifted momentarily to a quiet Colin Jost, Che remarked, “We all know that guy who appears decent but is definitely not. It might be someone you’re close with or a colleague. Sometimes you can’t pin anything on them, but you just know—those elite Ivy League sorts always have something shady up their sleeve.”

Che then prompted Jost, “Anything you’d like to add, Colin?”

“Stop switching to me,” Jost retorted.

Subsequently, cast member Kam Patterson appeared at the desk, full of excitement about the Glee reboot. (Ryan Murphy had recently completed a script for the reboot). Despite Patterson’s claims of being a big fan, eager to catch up on characters like Rachel on Broadway or Kurt and Blaine’s relationship status, Che was skeptical.

Che expressed his doubts, “Come on, I know you, man. You don’t have to accept every pitch from a white writer…. Listen, Kam. I’ve been here for, what, 30, 35 years? I know what’s happening. A couple of white guys in suits pitched you this Glee thing and now you’re here dropping names you’ve never heard before, right?”

Admitting his unfamiliarity, Patterson expressed regret for doing “jazz hands on national TV.”
