Christiane Amanpour Reveals Ovarian Cancer Return: “Listen To Your Body”

Four years after her initial diagnosis with ovarian cancer, Christiane Amanpour remains hopeful in her renewed fight against the illness.

Having been absent from broadcasting for a month, the CNN anchor disclosed her cancer’s recurrence, which she described as “quite uncommon,” while advocating for women to “pay attention to your body” and seek medical advice promptly.

“I am facing it once more, but it’s under excellent control, and this is something that everyone needs to realize about certain cancers,” she commented on the Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story podcast.

“When I returned to the camera after four weeks — a period that included the surgery and a few weeks of recovery before commencing chemotherapy — I chose to speak out because I wanted to help,” Amanpour continued. “I aimed to benefit not only my audience but also others who might be in the same boat. I wanted to share my experience and emphasize the importance of listening to your body, as my prompt response to the initial symptoms led to swift medical intervention.”

Joined by Dr. Angela George, a consultant in gynecologic oncology, Amanpour shared that her cancer is currently classified as “stage 1/2,” indicating it is in the early stages but has “attached to my pelvis.”

“Angela explained what it was and why I might be fortunate because there were actually symptoms of pain,” Amanpour recounted. “Often there are no symptoms, leaving many women unaware, so I consider myself fortunate.”

Amanpour first shared news of her ovarian cancer diagnosis back in 2021, noting then that she had undergone successful surgery to remove it, followed by several months of chemotherapy.
