Just off a challenging shoot for the movie Apex, Charlize Theron appeared at Netflix’s 2025 Upfront to share her recent on-set escapades, including a minor injury.
At the event, Theron humorously revealed she had to conceal a broken toe while working on the Australian set of the film.
“I truly miss the early morning nature sounds and the thrill of suspense on set, even if it feels like a serial killer might be lurking nearby,” she quipped. “Believe it or not, I just wrapped up filming Apex about a week ago. I’m standing here with traces of Australian soil still under my nails, and this stylish boot I’m wearing is actually covering up my fractured toe.”
She described the production of Apex as “an extraordinary adventure,” and expressed her awe at the remote, breathtaking Australian landscapes where they filmed, which felt like true uncharted territories.

The Academy Award-winning actress discussed her involvement in high-octane stunts for the film, noting that Apex allowed her to surpass her previous action roles, including her upcoming film Old Guard 2.
“Returning to the theme of my near-death experiences, I’m eager to share more about this epic project. I was fortunate to act alongside the incredibly talented Taron Egerton,” she added.
Apex centers on a mountain climber who is unexpectedly hunted during what should have been a routine climb. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur and written by Jeremy Robbins, the film features Theron, Taron Egerton, and Eric Bana in leading roles.
