‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Part II: Everything We Know So Far

Following a hiatus of more than a year, the second part of Yellowstone Season 5 is set to premiere in November of this year.

The narrative of the Taylor Sheridan-created series has so far spanned four and a half seasons, chronicling the lives of the Dutton family. Led by Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, the family runs the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. The Duttons continually face threats from expanding neighbors including Bozeman, Montana, the fictional Broken Rock Indian reservation, and the United States’ first national park.

Costner shared on social media following the announcement of the return date by Paramount Network that he would not be returning to the series. He expressed his love for the show and its fans but stated that his commitments to Horizon made it impossible to continue with Yellowstone.

In an interview with People, Costner voiced his disappointment over the lack of support from his former co-stars when his departure was blamed on his filming schedule for Horizon: An American Saga. Luke Grimes, however, expressed his understanding of Costner’s decision in an interview with The Independent.

How many Yellowstone prequels are there?

Currently, fans can enjoy two prequels, 1883 and 1923. 1923 features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as they portray early 20th-century Duttons during the challenging times of Prohibition, pandemics, and droughts. The series was renewed for a second season, though production was postponed due to the 2023 strikes.

Sheridan has suggested that two seasons would be sufficient to tell the complete story of 1923, which likely includes a total of eight more episodes.

The cast of the series includes Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn, and Julia Schlaepfer.

1883 stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Audie Rick, and others, narrating the westward journey of the Dutton ancestors through the Great Plains. The series was initially planned as a single season, and the storyline concludes with significant character deaths, leaving little room for a continuation.

Another prequel, tentatively titled 1944, might further explore the Dutton family saga.
