Marsali, now a widow, gathers their four children, Germain, Joan, Félicité, and Henri-Christian, to deliver the tragic news to Fergus’ heartbroken parents. Jamie and Claire, who had just been celebrating the arrival of their granddaughter, are devastated by the loss of their son.
Jamie crafts a coffin for Fergus’ remains and later buries it. In a touching moment, their granddaughter places a special stone on top of Fergus’ grave.
In the Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon, it is not Fergus but his son Henri-Christian who dies in a fire. The series depicts Henri-Christian surviving a fall from the roof, saved just before his father’s tragic demise.
