‘Outlander’ Says Goodbye To Longtime Character In Season 8

Major spoilers ahead for tonight’s episode of Outlander, titled “Evidence of Things Not Seen.”

The much-loved Starz series Outlander is in its final season, and tonight’s episode was marked by a poignant loss.

Tragedy struck the home of Fergus Fraser (César Domboy), the French adoptee of Claire and Jamie Fraser, as he, his wife Marsali (Lauren Lyle), and their children were asleep. A devastating fire engulfed their home. Fergus heroically managed to save his family one by one, but tragically lost his own life when he fell through the collapsing roof into the inferno below.

It was a heartbreaking sacrifice, as Fergus gave his life to ensure the safety of his loved ones.

Marsali, now a widow, gathers their four children, Germain, Joan, Félicité, and Henri-Christian, to deliver the tragic news to Fergus’ heartbroken parents. Jamie and Claire, who had just been celebrating the arrival of their granddaughter, are devastated by the loss of their son.

Jamie crafts a coffin for Fergus’ remains and later buries it. In a touching moment, their granddaughter places a special stone on top of Fergus’ grave.

In the Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon, it is not Fergus but his son Henri-Christian who dies in a fire. The series depicts Henri-Christian surviving a fall from the roof, saved just before his father’s tragic demise.
