Josh Segarra Joins Fox’s Medical Comedy ‘Best Medicine’ As Series Regular

EXCLUSIVE: Josh Segarra (Abbott Elementary, Scream 6) is set to appear in Fox’s new medical comedy Best Medicine, where he will star alongside Josh Charles and Abigail Spencer. This show, inspired by the beloved British series Doc Martin, is scheduled to start filming this summer in upstate New York.

Best Medicine is an hour-long comedy that follows Martin Best (played by Charles), a top-tier surgeon who leaves his prestigious position in Boston to work as a general practitioner in a charming East Coast fishing town—where he enjoyed his childhood summers. Although Martin is exceptionally skilled, his direct and often abrasive approach does not sit well with the eccentric and dependent locals, particularly the school teacher Louisa Glasson (Spencer). Yet, the residents’ determined spirits might be precisely what Martin needs to face his challenges.

Martin is adept at handling any health issue or puzzle that comes his way in this unusual community, but his real wish is to have some peace and solitude. However, he continually finds himself entangled in the locals’ personal dramas, disputes, and dreams. Unbeknownst to them, Martin’s gruff exterior hides a new phobia and deep psychological problems that hinder him from forming close relationships with others. But the persistence of this close-knit community could be just the remedy he needs.

In a primary role, Segarra will portray Sheriff Mark Mylow, the town’s endearing and big-hearted sheriff who might not be the brightest but is intimately familiar with the community. After a painful split from his longtime girlfriend, Louisa, he looks forward to making a new friend in Martin. However, as Martin and Louisa start to connect, a complicated love triangle forms.

Best Medicine is developed by Fox Entertainment Studios and has a production team that includes Ben Silverman (The Office, U.S.), Rodney Ferrell (Stick), Howard T. Owens (Stick), Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City), Mark Crowdy (Doc Martin), and Philippa Braithwaite (Doc Martin). The show is distributed globally by Fox Entertainment Global. Currently, Segarra stars in the new Netflix miniseries Sirens, acting alongside Meghann Fahy, Julianne Moore, and Kevin Bacon. In this series, he plays Raymond, a proud manager of a restaurant chain in Buffalo, New York, and the recurrent, tumultuous boyfriend of Devon (Fahy). He also continues to appear in the critically acclaimed ABC series Abbott Elementary. As Manny, an employee of the school district, he stars next to Quinta Brunson. Additionally, he features in Friendship, and the feature film The Threesome, which debuted at the 2025 South by Southwest Film Festival starring Zoey Deutch.

In 2023, Segarra expanded his portfolio by joining the Scream franchise with Scream 6, sharing the screen with Courtney Cox, Jenna Ortega, and Melissa Barrera. He also appeared in the Apple TV+ comedy The Big Door Prize, and in the second season of the Starz series Heels as Brooks Rizzo. His other notable roles include the charismatic Lance in the third season of HBO Max’s comedy series The Other Two, a part in the Marvel universe in She-Hulk alongside Tatiana Maslany, and a starring role alongside RuPaul in the Netflix scripted dramedy AJ and the Queen, created by RuPaul and Michael Patrick King. Segarra’s additional work includes playing Adrian Chase/Prometheus on CW’s Arrow, and roles in Fox’s The Moodys opposite Denis Leary and Elizabeth Perkins. He is represented by CAA, Andrew Tetenbaum at ATA, and Jackoway Tyerman.
