John Oliver Blasts Anti-Vaccine Mandates, Trump’s Assault on Colleges!

On his latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver quickly moved past recent news (including the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce engagement buzz) to criticize Florida’s prohibition of vaccine mandates in schools, and tackled a major segment on President Donald Trump’s continuous assault on higher education.

Addressing comments from Florida’s Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, who compared vaccine mandates to “slavery,” Oliver joked, “I’m not a medical professional, I just fantasize about one before bedtime,” while showing a picture of Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby from The Pitt. He continued, “However, it’s clear there are some things you definitely should be putting into your children’s bodies – like water, nutrients, and perhaps a single piece of dog food to settle any arguments, not to mention vaccines that can save lives.”

Highlighting a segment from a Fox News’ medical pundit who defended vaccines for their role in preventing illness and death through herd immunity, Oliver expressed, “It’s quite astonishing to receive such accurate health advice on Fox Business… it’s unexpected but welcome to see such a fervent support for public health from them.”

Concluding his vaccine discussion, Oliver referred to a clip featuring Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, with Putin endorsing the idea of organ harvesting to achieve immortality. Oliver remarked, “While it’s a bit disturbing that some leaders are obsessed with pursuing immortality through science, it’s downright embarrassing that ours seem determined to do the complete opposite.”

For the remainder of his show, Oliver detailed the severe reductions in university research funding and how Trump’s administration has withheld federal support under the misleading claim of combating antisemitism.
