While Fox News and similar conservative media outlets have criticized the NFL’s choice to feature Bad Bunny at the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime show, television host John Oliver has expressed his admiration for the Latin trap sensation. Oliver discussed the topic during the latest episode of Last Week Tonight.
Oliver humorously noted, “The NFL has controversially handed the Super Bowl Halftime show to one of the most popular and commercially successful figures today.”
Following the announcement that the artist from Puerto Rico would be performing, the Department of Homeland Security declared it would deploy ICE agents to the event, a move that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem later reinforced.
The artist recently spoke about the controversy during his monologue on the Season 51 premiere of Saturday Night Live. “I’m thrilled, and I think everyone else is too, even Fox News,” said the three-time Grammy winner. The program then showed edited clips from the network that humorously suggested, “Bad Bunny is my favorite artist. He should be the next president.”

In another segment on Last Week Tonight, Oliver touched on the widespread community resistance against ICE raids that disrupt neighborhoods.
Oliver argued, “If ICE agents can disturb people at their workplace, then it’s only fair that bystanders get to disrupt ICE while they conduct their government-backed operations. Clearly, this administration is intent on using these displays of force to intimidate communities, which is why strong local resistance is crucial each time.”
