Around 2020, when TikTok was rapidly gaining popularity, a recipe for traditional Limonada, or Brazilian lemonade, captured everyone’s attention. With plenty of limes from a bulk purchase at Costco and extra time, I decided to try out this intriguing recipe. It involves blending whole limes with sugar, water, and sweetened condensed milk.
Much to my pleasure, what I whipped up was incredibly satisfying. The drink came out creamy and frothy, rich yet light enough for a sweltering summer day. I was concerned about the potential bitterness from the whole limes, but the sweetened condensed milk perfectly smoothed out the flavors.
The only downside? My initial concerns were validated—the drink developed a slight bitterness over time from the lime pith. Since the recipe yields a large volume, it’s ideally enjoyed immediately after making. So, faced with the need for a citrusy, creamy drink for one, I turned back to TikTok!

The Ideal Creamy Lemonade
This summer, scrolling through TikTok led me to Ashley Lauren Tassano’s profile, which is filled with inventive cocktail and coffee recipes (who could resist an iced tiramisu latte?). She offers a clever twist on the creamy lemonade trend, addressing not just one, but two challenges.
Her version allows for a single serving without the need for straining or blending. You simply shake everything in a plastic quart container, reminiscent of those used at state fair lemonade stands. This method results in a lemonade that’s slightly less thick than its blended counterpart but still retains a delightful richness and froth, thanks to the sweetened condensed milk.

Crafting a 3-Ingredient Creamy Lemonade
To make one serving, you’ll need:
- 2 lemons, cleaned and dried
- 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of filtered water
- 1 cup of ice cubes
- 1 to 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk
Start by juicing the lemons and then chopping the juiced halves into small chunks. Place both the juice and chunks into a quart-sized container with a lid. Add the sugar and use a muddler or wooden spoon to dissolve the sugar.
Next, pour in the water, ice, and add the sweetened condensed milk according to your taste. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously until the mixture is well mixed, creamy, and frothy. Serve immediately for the best taste!

Handy Hints and Tips
- I find myself making this drink almost every afternoon! To make it even easier, freeze extra sweetened condensed milk in 1-tablespoon portions using an ice cube tray. When you’re ready, just microwave a cube briefly before adding it to your ice and mixture for a quick shake.
- If you prefer a tangier taste, stick with two whole lemons. For a sweeter drink, adjust the amount of sugar and sweetened condensed milk.
- To give it a tropical twist, substitute the sweetened condensed milk with sweetened condensed coconut milk and replace the water with coconut water.
