The Million Dollar Dinner My Family Begs For

60 mins

My family adores our straightforward 4-ingredient ravioli bake so much that I decided to challenge myself to elevate it into something spectacular. Don’t worry, I’m not talking about splurging on outrageously priced ingredients or revamping our kitchen!

Inspiration struck from the popular Million Dollar Spaghetti that everyone was talking about on Tiktok and Instagram recently. This meant infusing our dish with a hearty dose of meat and a blend of four rich cheeses, transforming it into a luxurious feast suitable for a large gathering of friends or family.

You’d be surprised at how many variations of million dollar casseroles there are, from the famous spaghetti to a chicken version topped with crispy crackers. The goal is always to make your guests—or even just yourself—feel like they’re eating something incredibly indulgent and expensive.

The secret is to layer on flavor in every step of the cooking process. In our case, a simple assembly of fresh ravioli, store-bought sauce, sautéed sausage, and a mix of cheeses gets a major upgrade with additional meat, more sauce, layers of ricotta, cream cheese, and sour cream, topped off with a double layer of cheese.

Essential Ingredients for Million Dollar Ravioli Bake

  • Begin with ready-made ravioli. I prefer the fresh variety as it cooks a bit faster than frozen, but frozen will certainly do the job too. With a hearty meat sauce, simple cheese ravioli works great, or you could opt for a meat-filled version.
  • Incorporate two types of meat. For a regular weeknight meal, Italian sausage alone brings plenty of flavor. But for a true million dollar experience, adding ground beef provides both rich taste and satisfying texture.
  • Create a luxurious cheese layer. The ‘money layer’ is a cheesy trifecta of ricotta, softened cream cheese, and a dash of sour cream. It bakes into an ultra-creamy delight that mimics the heartiness of a meticulously layered lasagna.
  • Construct big, flavorful layers. Unlike lasagna, this bake is simpler with just four main layers—one-third of the ravioli tossed in marinara, a cheesy middle layer, the remaining two-thirds of ravioli, and finally the meat sauce. It’s all topped with a generous amount of mozzarella and Parmesan, culminating in a four-cheese delight.

Prepare It In Advance

Assembling this casserole takes around 25 minutes, and it bakes for 35 to 45 minutes, making it a feasible option for a relatively quick dinner. It can also be prepared up to 3 days ahead and either refrigerated or frozen.

If frozen, let it thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Then, allow your chilled casserole to sit at room temperature as you preheat the oven, and bake as directed, possibly allowing a few extra minutes to ensure it’s hot, bubbly, and golden on top.

Ingredients

  • Nonstick cooking spray

  • 1 (20ounce) package fresh cheese ravioli, such as Buitoni or Rana

  • 1 (40ounce) jar marinara sauce, divided

  • 1 pound 90% lean ground beef

  • 1/2 pound mild Italian sausage, removed from casings if links

  • 1 (8ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese

  • 1/4 cup sour cream

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Method

  1. Heat your oven to 400°F.

Thoroughly coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Mix the uncooked ravioli with 1 cup of marinara sauce in a bowl until evenly coated.

  2. Prepare the meat sauce:

Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a spatula or wooden spoon. Cook until the meat is well-browned and no longer pink, about 12 minutes.

Once cooked, remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of marinara sauce. Set aside to cool while you prepare the cheese mixture.

  3. Combine the cheeses:

In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, ricotta, sour cream, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt until mostly smooth. A few lumps are fine.

  4. Assemble the casserole:

Spread the remaining cup of marinara sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking
