FX Announces Pilot for New Drama Featuring Elizabeth Olsen
EXCLUSIVE: FX has recently announced that it will be moving forward with a pilot for the new drama titled Seven Sisters, featuring Elizabeth Olsen (Love and Death, His Three Daughters). This project is backed by a team of notable executive producers including Will Arbery (Succession, Irma Vep), who is also the writer of the pilot; Sean Durkin (The Iron Claw, Dead Ringers), who will also serve as the director; and Garrett Basch (What We Do in the Shadows, Ripley).
Seven Sisters marks a reunion for Olsen and Durkin, over a decade after their collaboration on the critically acclaimed 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene, which was Durkin’s debut as a feature director and Olsen’s film debut.
The storyline of Seven Sisters, produced by FX Productions, revolves around a large, closely-knit family that starts to come apart at the seams when one of the sisters, played by Olsen, begins to hear a voice that no one else can hear. This mysterious occurrence forces each family member to face secrets that have long been buried.
Should the pilot be successful, it would be Basch’s fifth series collaboration with FX, as his production company Dive holds a first-look deal with the network. His recent series includes Devs, Reservation Dogs, and What We Do In the Shadows, along with Sterlin Harjo’s upcoming Tulsa noir drama featuring Ethan Hawke. Basch also recently took on executive producing roles for Netflix’s Ripley, Apple TV+’s Time Bandits, and Hulu’s Interior Chinatown. His latest film work includes producing Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins and the forthcoming Klara and the Sun.
Writer and Texas native Will Arbery has contributed to HBO’s Succession, earning a WGA Award for Episodic Drama. He is co-writing the screenplay for the upcoming movie Sacrifice, directed by Romain Gavras and starring Chris Evans and Anya Taylor Joy. Arbery, a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his play Heroes of the Fourth Turning, is represented by CAA, Range, and Ziffren Brittenham.
Director Sean Durkin, whose recent work includes writing, directing, and producing The Iron Claw for A24—a winner at The 95th National Board of Review Awards—is set to adapt and direct Deep Cuts for A24, starring Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler. Durkin is represented by UTA, Management 360, and Nelson Davis.
Up next, Olsen will star with Alicia Vikander in Fleur Fortuné’s directorial debut The Assessment, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and was picked up by Magnolia Pictures. She is also set to appear alongside Miles Teller and Callum Turner in A24’s romantic comedy Eternity, which she is also executive producing. Currently, Olsen is filming the Warner Brothers thriller Panic Carefully with Julia Roberts. Her representatives include Brillstein Entertainment Partners, CAA, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
