Zimbabwe may not be completely out of the violent woods just yet. Grace and her allies seem to still be causing the new government a problem or two.
Throughout the entire Zimbabwe “coup not coup” we heard a lot about the strength of Grace Mugabe’s allies. The so-called G40 faction was said to be dangerous and corrupt to the core, now, even though Grace is long gone, a new report says her allies are causing new problems.

NewsDay in Zimbabwe reports that Zimbabwean Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu has said that the military is on high alert after fears that Grace’s supporters are regrouping outside the country.
Mpofu took this stance publically after former higher education minister Jonathan Moyo warned of bloodshed if this new “illegitimate” government was allowed to continue.
The Home Affairs minister was not worried, though.
“If we could deal with a vicious enemy like the Rhodesian regime, what can stop us from dealing with the renegades who may want to destabilise our peace and stability? We are not a banana republic.”
“We are a democratic country with a formidable security services sector and we cannot allow people to destabilise our peace.”
He also warned that people who contemplate “causing chaos” will face the full wrath of our security sector and “patriotic Zimbabweans” Mpofu was adamant that there was no risk of bloodshed.
“This can only be said by people who deliberately ignore the reality of the Zimbabwean people in terms of defending their hard-won independence from people who are not patriotic, people who survive on instability, our people are united no matter which part of the country they come from and will resist any divisive elements from any quarter,” he said.
Zimbabwe war veterans spokesperson Douglas Mahiya did choose to stress that the warning should not be taken lightly.
“We are aware that this G40 cabal was corrupt and they stole large amounts of money from the country. It is not unimaginable that using that loot they could be raising an army of mercenaries, which might come to destabilise our peace, so our security forces must be on high alert to deal with these people,” he said.
For now, though, this looks to be nothing more than a pipe dream from some of Mugabe’s most dedicated allies.
