This 5-Star Ina Garten Recipe Is My Favorite

Just two minutes into a YouTube mini-documentary about a Le Creuset factory, I found myself deep in existential thought. Why am I obsessed with owning enameled cast-iron cookware in every imaginable color when it’s clear I can’t afford it and barely use it?

But perhaps these aren’t the questions I should be pondering. Maybe I should be asking: Why isn’t my entire cookware collection in the color Brioche?

Fresh out of college, I acquired a non-Le Creuset Dutch oven that was too big for my tiny New York City kitchen stove, all because I romanticized the idea of cooking heartwarming meals. I envisioned myself returning from work, groceries in hand (baguette included, of course), pouring a glass of wine, and throwing a mix of aromatics, broths, butters, and maybe a whole chicken into the pot, dancing around my cramped kitchen to the tunes of Miles Davis until the meat fell tenderly off the bone.

In my mind, I was a mix of Julie Powell from Julie & Julia, Nigella Lawson’s straightforward sass, and a dash of Bridget Jones for good measure. I wasn’t much of a chef, but I believed my Dutch oven would magically fix that. Little did I know, what I really needed was Ina Garten’s legendary five-star pasta dish: Rigatoni with Sausage and Fennel.

My Adoration for Ina’s Rigatoni with Sausage and Fennel

Ina Garten, possibly the best promoter of Le Creuset in America, makes any home cook feel like a pro with her simple yet delicious Rigatoni with Sausage and Fennel. This dish is straightforward to prepare in any cookware and always worth the effort, thanks to a few clever shortcuts.

The dish is creamy, slightly fennel-flavored due to the sweet Italian sausage, packed with Parmesan, and garnished with fresh parsley, making it a comforting go-to for entertaining or meal prep. It’s such a hit that even finicky kids ask for it again and again, as numerous glowing reviews attest.

Crafting This Five-Star Pasta Dish

Begin by heating olive oil in a pot, then add chopped onions and fennel, cooking until they’re tender. Next, brown the sausage, followed by adding minced garlic, crushed fennel seeds, crushed red pepper, salt, and pepper. Pour in wine, heavy cream, and half-and-half, along with tomato paste. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes.
