Recently, while watching an episode of Abbott Elementary, I caught a joke that seemed tailor-made for me. In the episode, Jacob, a middle school teacher, is chatting with his student. The student teases, “Mr. C, you’re like moss, because you definitely live under a rock.” To which Jacob quips, “Actually, I live above an ALDI.” That got a big laugh out of me.
Although I don’t have an apartment above an ALDI, I might as well be a fixture there given how frequently I shop and rave about the place. My weekly grocery runs are always to ALDI, where I load up on essentials as well as some unique finds. A regular on my shopping list is ALDI’s Sliced Sourdough Round.

The Appeal of ALDI’s Sliced Sourdough Round
ALDI’s Specialty Selected Sliced Sourdough Round is my top choice for sandwiches. It’s priced at $4.15, a bit more than your typical sandwich bread, but the slices are large enough that I often just need one to make a sandwich.
The bread’s soft, tangy quality and its artisanal appearance instantly upgrade my lunch experience. It only takes a few minutes to prepare a sandwich, but this bread makes it feel like a treat from a fancy café.
Crafting Delights with ALDI’s Sliced Sourdough Round
ALDI’s sourdough is superb when savored in a savory setting and makes for excellent toast. I often toast whole slices in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Alternatively, the slices can be halved to fit in a standard toaster. I use a single slice for a hearty half sandwich or enjoy it as an open-faced creation.
I adore how the bread’s tanginess complements creamy toppings or fillings. I’ve used it for avocado toast, tuna melts, and ricotta bruschetta. It’s also fantastic for making grilled cheese. I keep the bread in the refrigerator to extend its freshness—it’s never gone stale before I can finish it. And by the time I’m done with one loaf, I’ve usually already picked up another.
