In the lead-up to the pivotal midterm elections, Arnold Schwarzenegger made an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher to voice his opposition to California’s Proposition 50.
In response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s ‘Election Rigging Response Act,’ triggered by controversial redistricting actions in Texas that favored Republicans, Schwarzenegger expressed his concerns to Maher, labeling Prop 50 as “a major sham” and highlighting widespread gerrymandering issues.
“I’m rooting for the people to win,” he declared. “I may be a Republican, but I’m not blind to party lines. I don’t just serve the party; my commitment is to the people first and foremost.”

Schwarzenegger elaborated, “We should not reverse the powers held by Californians and hand them over to politicians. We’ve battled against that for years. Let’s set a positive example. Let the Democrats outshine the Republicans so they can reclaim the House based on their merits.”
Maher responded skeptically, “That doesn’t sound very realistic to me.”
The former governor also praised the independent California Citizens Redistricting Commission, established in 2010 with his support.
Earlier, in August, Newsom playfully jabbed at the Twins (1988) star on social media after Schwarzenegger’s co-star Danny DeVito donated $1,000 to the campaign supporting Prop 50.
