Chidzambga Quits Zimbabwe Warriors After Disastrous AFCON 2019

Zimbabwe football coach Sunday Chidzambga has resigned amid criticism over his suitability to steer the Warriors to greater heights.

A day after unrelenting criticism over his omission of Joel Ngodzo from the national team and in the aftermath a failed African Cup of Nations, Chidzambga threw in the towel via a terse statement.

“This letter serves to notify you of my decision to resign from the position of coach of the Zimbabwe men’s national football team with immediate effect. My last day of work will be the 24th of July 2019. I wish to convey my profound gratitude to the association for the time I have served as the national team coach,” Chidzambga said in a letter to ZIFA.

Chidzambga had boldly stated after Zimbabwe’s failed AFCON campaign that “I will not quit”.

“If the authorities bring a new coach they’re most welcome, maybe it’s time for me to go. But the honest truth is that I wanted to go to the World Cup finals,” he said then.

Impeccable sources said Chidzambga jumped off the cliff on the back of unrelenting criticism from journalists.

“He took it to heart. Even after the CHAN squad was announced the unrelenting criticism over one player was unbearable. Although I know many will say he should have stuck to his squad but he is who he is. ” the insider said.
