MBARE COPS SUSPENDED

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has suspended four of its members from duties pending disciplinary action in connection with an illegal Mbare musical bash which was held by DJ Fantan and his associates.

In a statement, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the suspension.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that Superintendent Innocent Makumbe, Inspector Garikai Jiyane (Officer in Charge, Matapi), Inspector Peace Nyarai Gunhe (Deputy officer) and Assistant Inspector Vengai Mupamhanga (deputy member) have been suspended from police duties by Commissioner General of Police pending disciplinary action.

 

“Investigations conducted have revealed that the senior officer and junior members did not perform their duties according to police set standards.

 

“Government’s Covid-19 regulations in handling the illegal Mbare musical bash held by DJ Fantan and his associates on December 31.”

 

DJ Fantan and his promoter popularly known as Dhama were arrested on Sunday for participating in a prohibited gathering on New Year’s Eve in Mbare.

 

Fantan, real name Arnold Kamudyariwa, 33, and Tinashe ‘Dhama’ Chanachimwe, 27, were detained at Matapi police station and are expected to appear in court.

Ass Comm Nyathi urged people to take reports of Covid-19 death and positive cases seriously.

 

The duo contravened Section 5 (iii) of Statutory Instrument 77/2020 of participating in a prohibited gathering.
