Police have urged people to ensure that their homes are secure to avoid robberies and burglaries during the festive season.
Addressing travellers at Simon Muzenda Bus Terminus (popularly known as 4th Street rank) in Harare on Thursday, police also advised people to take extra care of their children who might get lost in traffic congestion.
Superintendent Terrence Tichaona Majongosi urged people to be peaceful and avoid violence saying families will be spending more time together during the festive holiday hence should avoid gender violence.
“If such acts occur people should not be afraid to report because the Gender Based Violence Act is there to protect women, men and children.
“Children may be abused and parents may fail to notice because they do not spend quality time with their children” said Sup Majongosi.
He said police and the government were concerned about the citizens’ safety and wellness.
Shop owners were advised to put maximum security and alarms as they close for the holidays to avoid incidents of theft.
“Do not leave valuables in your cars and you should leave outside lights on to prevent breaking in,” said Mian Sohail the representative of the Crime Consultative Committee (CCC).
