There was drama at Chiundura turnoff in Gweru on Monday afternoon after an unidentified man was given a hiding for stealing a wallet from a fellow passenger’s bag.
The man was sharing the same seat in a CAG bus with the woman whom he stole from. After stealing the wallet, the man stopped the bus pretending to have reached his destination.
The woman then shouted for the bus to stop after having realised that the man has stolen her wallet.
“Please stop this bus now this man who has just disembarked from the bus has stolen my wallet,” said the woman.
The bus was stopped immediately and four men ran after the ‘thief’ who was already running away with the wallet after realising that he was being followed.
However, he was caught within a few minutes and brought back to the bus where he was thoroughly beaten by the woman with the help of other passengers.
“Give me back my wallet and the money which was inside the wallet,” shouted the woman in anger.
Initially he denied ever taking a wallet from the woman but after being given a thorough hiding he led the woman and other passengers to recover the wallet from the grass beside the road where he had thrown it.
Fortunately, the woman managed to recover US$5 and ZWL$60 out of the US$260 she claimed that the man stolen.
