A SECURITY guard was grisly murdered in a robbery on his first deployment to a new workstation.

Vincent Nyakunhuwa, who was 30 years of age, was murdered in Eastlea on Monday morning at Samukange Hungwe Attorneys where the robbers went away with an inverter and four solar batteries.

A caretaker at the law firm was also beaten in and still nursing injuries.

Lazarus Nyakunhuwa, an uncle to the deceased said he was taken aback when Gurdian Security staff came to his residence in the morning looking for Vincent’s identity particulars.

“That is when we were told that Vincent was critical at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

“We rushed to the hospital but in no time Vincent’s body was now in the police metal coffin.

“That is when we came to realise that he had really died,” narrated Lazarus.

He said Vincent’s body had deep cuts which suggested that he could have been hit by machetes.

“We buried Vincent on Wednesday but we are still pained that he died this way in his line of duty.

“It was a painful death and he left behind a wife and three young children,” Lazarus said.

Tafadzwa Charles Hungwe, a managing partner at the law firm, confirmed the incident saying the assailants went away with an inverter and four solar batteries but not before they left Vincent for death as well as the caretaker.

“It seems as if they only wanted an inverter and batteries because there were other things but they had their target which they took.

“It is very sad that people could kill for those possessions.

“This is a very sad development,” said Hungwe.

Lazarus said they had got assistance from the law firm which pledged to assist the family with school fees for the children left behind.
