Warriors midfielder and Black Leopards player Ovidy Karuru is taking pride in playing for the national soccer team that recently qualified for the 2022 Afcon finals.
“As players we tend to forget that we are soldiers for the country wherever we are, so whenever we get the opportunity to play for the national team we have to come and represent our country,” Karuru told H-Metro yesterday.
He said club teammates at any club across the world respect players who represent their national teams.
“When you play for the national team you are respected at the club, but when you don’t play for your national team they don’t respect you. It’s about national pride,” he said.
Karuru said the Zimbabwe national soccer team proved their mettle in beating Botswana to qualify for the Afcon finals.
“We will be playing for our pride, it is all about dedication when we are called up, he said.
