England based Kossam Mhangani who won the prestigious LTA official of the year award says he is elated to win the award.
Mhangami who is the third Zimbabwean after the late Ngoni Kufa and Ruramayi Rukuni to officiate at the Wimbledon, has umpired some of the best tennis players in the world.
” I’m super proud of the achievement. I could not imagine a young boy from Gokwe given such an accolade. It was well beyond my dreams.
“I have always enjoyed tennis. I played it, coached it and officiated it but never thought that I will be recognised this way.
“Credit to all those who stood by me particularly my family, I just want to thank everyone for their unwavering support.
“Officiating at Wimbledon to me is special. Having people like Selena Williams and Nadal on court is much for me.” he said.
Mhangami added that he is disappointed about not having Wimbledon this year and he is however opmistic of greater one ahead,
“It’s a shame not having Wimbledon this year but hopefully next year it will be bigger and better.” added Kossam.
