HERENTALS College secretary Fainos Madhumbu says they will continue supporting football in the country after unveiling a sponsorship package for the Young Mighty Warriors ahead of their U17 World Cup qualifier return leg against Botswana in Bulawayo this Sunday.
The sponsorship was unveiled at Zifa Village on Saturday and will see the girls and their technical team getting RTGS$500 each as appearance fee and RTGS$15 000 to cover their camping expenses.
Herentals proprietor Innocent Benza has also pledged RTGS$45 000 as scholarship package for all the girls on condition they enroll with any Herentals school anywhere in the country.
The scholarship package will run from the girls’ current level in education until Form 6.

Madhumbu said they have been supporting football in the country over the years and will continue doing so in the future.
He dismissed talk that the sponsorship is a tactic to influence a pending disciplinary hearing of match fixing allegations.
“People can talk about the timing, but eight years ago we were assisting Zifa and now in 2020 we are still assisting. As sponsors, we are not worried about the timing.
“We are not affected by that. As an institution, we are serious about sporting activities. We have been supporting the Warriors before and have done a number of activities that benefit sport in general in the country,” said Madhumbu.
The sponsorship came at a time the girls are looking forward to overturn the 5-0 deficit in the first which coach Langton Giwa believes is possible.
“I just started training today but based on what I have seen so far; we have the capacity to overturn the result. This (sponsorship) has also given the girls confidence going into the match,” he said.
Young Mighty Warriors captain Tariro Chirume hailed Herentals for the sponsorship saying this will go a long way in helping them get a better result.
“We also want to make our sponsors happy so we are going to do everything so that we score many goals to overturn the result,” she said.
Zifa board member, Sugar Chagonda, who represented the association described Herentals as all-weather friends.
He said the gesture by Herentals should come as a lesson to all football stakeholders to work together for the development of football.
