A Good Hope couple was yesterday hauled to court charged with fraud in a US$70 000 botched stand deal.

Tranos John Matukutire, 55, and his wife Ratidzai Matukutire, 52, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa and were remanded to today for bail ruling.

Prosecutor Sabastian Mutizirwa alleged that in 2018, the couple acting in connivance misrepresented to the complainant Tawira Madanhire that they were selling a residential stand measuring 1246 by 2035 meters at a cost of US$71 225 intending to deceive him.

Acting on the misrepresentation, the complainant deposited the full amount to Ratidzai Matukutire’s Barclays account and after the payment, the couple lied to him that they had to wait for the issuance of a compliance certificate before construction the stand.

Mandanire then discovered that the stand had already been occupied by someone else and construction had already begun and no stand has been handed over to the complainant to date.
