A Harare man yesterday appeared in court charged with attempted murder after he shot a security guard after a misunderstanding with other patrons at a bar in Glen View.

Tawanda Jarnett, 34, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa who released him on $500 bail and ordered him to report at CID Homicide three times a week and also not to interfere with State witnesses.

Allegations are that on January 4 Jarnett was drinking with friends at a bar where he had a misunderstanding with other patrons who were also drinking at the same place and during the scuffle, he withdrew a pistol and fired one shot in the air to scare away his opponents.

Members of the public and the security personnel tried to disarm him and he fired another shot hitting a security guard on his right bicep.

Jarnett violated the terms of the issuance of his pistol which was issued for the purpose of protection of cash in transit only.

Jarnett was remanded to appear in court on February 16.

Lancelot Mutsokoti appeared for the State.
