Zim-Congo ties blossom

AS the countdown to Zimbabwe’s 40th Independence celebrations on April 18 heightens, the Congolese community in Harare has since stepped up festivities.

In a show of solidarity and oneness with Zimbabweans, the Congolese Community in Harare will combine forces with local rhumba acts at Mazowe Sailing Club (Lake Chivero) for a pre-Independence Day celebrations this Saturday.

The celebrations, which have attracted an array of entertainers, will also feature some major exhibitions where African cuisines and delicacies are set to be served.

In short, the event is aimed at celebrating diversity and cordial relations existing between the two countries at the serene venue located on the shores of Lake Chivero.

Top and consistent rhumba acts comprising BV Labien Musica, Baba Ngwasuma, Lady Storm are part of the bill while Diamond Musica and Baba Des As and Best of All Musica are set to participate.

Not to be outdone are top rhumba DJs in town who have been included in the line-up.

Show spokesperson and Bana Ngwasuma financier Gloria “Mama Glow”  Benhura said it was all systems go.

“We are very much aware of the 40th Independence Day celebrations to be held on April 18 but for us rhumba artistes the Congolese family resident in Zimbabwe, every day is Uhuru for us.

“We have resolved that we mark the celebrations in style and that’s why we are hosting this big shows as we are celebrating the peace enjoy.

“Zimbabwe and DRC share a lot in common and the two nations have been supporting each other under thick and thin and we can’t afford to ignore this history and relations we are enjoying,” he said.

Mama Glow said music and culture unites people, hence Saturday’s concert and exhibitions are part of the festivities.

“We can’t afford to ignore our past as well as gains of the independence which enabled artistes to freely hold such shows.

“If we were not liberated, we would not be able to hold such shows,” she said.

Added Mama Glow:

“In as far as preparations go, we are ready for the event and we can simply say its all systems to go.

“On the day in question, we are looking forward to collaborations among artistes and DJs in a show of solidarity.”

Meanwhile, Lady Storm who is part of the bill is set to launch her new single titled Wazodini.

Lady Storm is one of the consistent rhumba artistes who has been doing well set to perform at the event.

Besides Mama Glow’s efforts to unite the Congolese community in Harare, other players who are spearheading comprise Papa Kaninda  and fellow members of Bana Ngwasuma.

The event starts at 8pm till late.
